Back in VA

After my days of doing all the toursity things I could do, my parents came into the city to move me out of my dorm. We were out of the city within twenty minutes. Here's a picture that my mom made me do from my room. Its's so artsy.

We put all my stuff into a huge bin and took it down the elevator. It made moving out of the 26th floor much easier.

Trying to figure out how to put all the stuff into the car.
Bye Marymount dorms!

Going to miss NYC and of course all the food!!

Walked about 100 Miles Today

Got up this morning and headed to Grand Central for some Oren's coffee. Yes, Orens has a location right across from my dorm, but the one in GC has doughnut plant donuts and I was willing to make the trip.

I went over to Herald Square and into Macys. Did you know if you show your out of state drivers license you get 10% off??

I took the 6 back up to the Met and got lost in there for about 2 hrs. That museum is HUGE. I was really hoping to go to the costume exhibit but it closed August 9! BLAST.

Walked through Central Park and onto the Lion King theater. I was hoping to get a ticket but of course they don't even do a student rush the day of. Soo I decided to do Top of the Rock instead. Take that Simba!

I met Miranda around 6:30 and we headed downtown to Smac. It serves ONLY mac and cheese! I got the Alpine, which was swiss cheese with bacon. Delicious but very filling. We came across this odd window display on our walk over to Greenwich. Those heads are all made out of felt. And yeah, the green head has an eye coming out.

Oh and then I went to Dylans Candy Bar and spent $20. Whoops.

Last Week in Da Apple

I know I haven't updated in awhile! My brother (Ryan) and my Mom came into the city on Friday. My mom flew in and got here in the morning. We headed to Alice's Tea Cup. Ryan came in around 2 and we all made our way to Chelsea to walk the high line. It's about 20 ft. up and it overlooks the Hudson and used to be a railroad. Then we headed downtown and walked the Brooklyn Bridge.

Saturday we walked around the upper east side and into the National Library. Walking into the library I am embarrassed to say my first thought was "Hey, this is where Carrie was suppose to get married in 'Sex and in the City!'"

Ryan went home on Saturday, but my mom and I went down to the Greenwich area and had an amazing outdoor dinner at Palma. Our waitress was actually from Arlington, VA. Small world.

I had a set schedule of things I have wanted to do this summer so I decided to check off a few today. I headed down to the South St. Seaport. With the ships and cobblestone it reminded me a lot of Boston.

But then I saw this store, and I realized it wasn't anything like Boston! Boooo Yankees!!!!

After the port, I headed over to Wall St. and saw the NY Stock Exchange. I definitely picked the worst day to do this walking tour since it was about 90 degrees today.

I also came across the Statue of LIberty. The line for the Staten Island Ferry was insane!!! I can't imagine how long some of those people had to wait in line.

I continued walking up toward the WTC site and onto SoHo. I came across Baked by Melissa, which has these amazing little cupcakes. I got s'mores, peanut butter chocolate, and tie-dye.

After SoHo, I took the 6 to the upper east side. I went into the Guggenheim Museum and took an audio tour. I had no idea the the museum was designed Frank Lloyd Wright. Little fun fact for ya! Here is the inside of the museum looking up! The museum had paintings from Van Gogh, Picasso, and Renoir.

After the museum I went down a few blocks and into the Neue Galerie. Inside it has all German and Austrian works, but I went for the food! And yes, I ate by myself! I was surprised at how many people were doing the same thing. I got goulash soup and a cheese danish with vanilla sauce. The goulash was just like I was in Germany and the fact that the dessert came with a vanilla sauce to pour was right up my alley.

Last Day

So today was my last day at Tribal. It was so weird because it felt like my last day of high school. There was no actual work to do, but just a lot of goodbyes. I had another meeting about my resume, got coffee with two copywriters, had a luncheon with the interns, and then cleaned out my desk.  It was sad to leave something that you've been doing for the past 10 weeks. But I really feel like I got some great contacts out of it.

In my presentation yesterday the Tribal interns were the very last to go. Had to end on a BANG! Jason did his part first and then handed it off to me. Right as I was about to give my icebreaker (it was a good one too) the CEO and President of DDB walks in. WHA? I look at Melanie and she is mouthing the words "OH MY GOD." He sits down and says to me in front of everyone, "Sorry I'm late. No pressure or anything, but this whole presentation is resting in your hands." He said something along those lines..I'm not too sure because I think I blacked out for a few seconds.

I kept on with my presentation and I was so relieved when it was over. To celebrate all the interns went to an outdoor restaurant and got drinks and food. yayyyy
And yes, today Melanie and I were complete losers and managed to take these pics.

Swanky Hip Dinnaaa

So here is where I went to dinner last night after work. Me, and two coworkers went downtown to La Esquina. It was amazing Mexican food but I think the best part was the atmosphere. When you go in, you go up to a bouncer and tell him you have reservations. Then a woman looks through the list of names. When she finds your name she walkie-talkies downstairs to tell them we're coming. You go down these beat upstairs, take a left and all the sudden you're in the kitchen. The cooks smile and greet you and as you keep walking through. Then as you turn the corner you're in a dimly lit lounge area with an awesome bar that has candle sticks resembling something from Phantom of the Opera.

For dinner, I got fish tacos (mahi-mahi) with salsa verde and onions. But, to start I got raw tuna and smoked chili on a crispy taco chip. I have never had raw tuna but apparently I now love it. I also got tortilla soup which was served in a bowl resembling a mini cauldron. That right there makes it awesome. I also got a pineapple margarita and for dessert we split warm chocolate cake, espresso, cinnamon, creme fraiche ice cream. Sooo good.

No celebrity sightings though. Everytime someone new walked in I had to immediatly stop eating and stare for about 10 seconds.

Last week of the Internship

I left of saying I didn't know where I was going to go to dinner Saturday night. Well, I took a recommendation from one of my cousins and got some southern cookin' at a restaurant called Blue Smoke. As I write what I ate I realize that with each food item I list I am getting closer and closer to a heart attack.
- Hush puppies
- Mac & Cheese (heaven in my mouth)
- Cornbread
- Ribs
After eating all that southern food and feeling like I was going to die several hours later, it doesn't surprise me that the top ten overweight states are ALL in the south.

Sunday was a pretty rainy day so I slept in and spent my time getting hooked to a binge drinking movie on Lifetime. I seriously couldn't stop watching it. Finally my brother called and got me out of my trashy movie trance. I met him and Becky at Ess-a-Bagel and then took them over to Dylan's Candy Bar. After they left to go catch their bus I made my way up to 6th ave and walked around the HUGE market.

I went for a run along the east river again. It is such a great run! I am going to miss that about the city. Cruise ships went by, there were about 6 bridges I passed, and tons of dog parks. What am I going to look at during my runs in Harrisonburg? Mennonites and Wal-Mart? Great.

On my way back from my run I went along 1st ave. There are so many pretty restaurants in this city and it's a shame because I will never have time to eat at them all. After my 50 block walk, I also realized ANYTHING you can think of is in this city. I mean annnyyyttthiiingg. I found several places that only thread eyebrows (eww that creeps me out). I also found a hair cuttery that specializes in men's Scandinavian hair cuts. What does that even mean?? And how are they staying in business?

I am off to go watch some intern presentations. Tonight I am going to that cool restaurant with some coworkers. Kelly Ripa ate there last week. Fingers crossed she is craving some Mexican food tonight!

Weekend with Greg and Becky

So on Friday morning I ended getting up at 6 in the morning to walk over to Central Park to see Kelly Clarkson perform for Good Morning America. Yes, that's right, I'm a huge fan. And if you don't admit to saying she has an amazing voice then you're lying to yourself.
To prove I was such a big fan, Miranda and I walked there in the pouring rain and then stood in the pouring rain for about 30 min. If you want proof please view the video above. For some reason the video is not working on this post.

I still don't think that video gets across the magnitude of the rain. I mean it was POURING. And then magically Kelly Clarkson came on and it stopped. She's that good.

Work was pretty awesome on Friday. Not only was it bagel day, but I got to chat with one of the copywriters at Tribal and get some tips. I also chatted for about an hour and a half with my boss, Amy. She was giving me a lot of great advice as to what I should look into for when I graduate. Perhaps broadcast production. She also said she would talk to her friend who works at Gourmet about me. She is actually going to dinner with her tonight. I guess this woman's job at the magazine pretty much consists of her working in the test kitchen all day. Uhh sign me up please.

I went out to dinner with Melanie (other Tribal intern) for the last night of restaurant week (but really it's like 2 1/2 weeks). We went to the Modern, which is part of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa -- if you're hip). I got a huge onion tarte thing (I'm too lazy to look up the menu right now), hanger steak with artichoke and asparagus, and a hazelnut chocolate dessert. It was all really good.

Today I met up with Greg and Becky and we went downtown to go to a Hell's Kitchen Flea Market. Of course I got the directions wrong and we were way out of our way. But I managed to use my horrible sense of direction as an excuse to stop at a bakery. A bakery that has pretzel croissants.

The whole pretzel croissant idea was not as mind blowing as I would have thought. In essence, it was a salty croissant. Nice try City Bakery.

We made our way to the flea market eventually and walked around there for a bit. It was so hot outside today so as I was looking at the vintage jewelry my face was slowly melting off.

We stopped in at a restaurant called Greenhouse 36 for a few little tapas to hold us over till dinner. We got spinach and artichoke dip, little sliders, crabcakes, and bacon wrapped chicken. All of them were great and the atmosphere was so pretty. It was a nice like outdoor patio garden.

We headed back uptown and stopped at Macy's on the way in Herald Square. Becky got herself a purse. I think she is the faster shopper I have ever seen. There were about 500 purses to choose from and she got hers within 15 minutes. Impressive.

Don't know where we're going to dinner tonight but so help me it better be delicious. I am thinking Smac. It serves all different kinds of mac & cheese. How could you go wrong? (Famous last words?!)
